Every single person has a unique bone structure. At Soundarapandian Bone and Joint Hospital we prioritise this uniqueness during TKRs by 3D printing a fully customised knee implant with our new and innovative PERFIT-R technique.
Medications, walking support and altering activity levels may no longer be helpful after knee disease progresses beyond a certain level. If you are at this stage, Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery is the best treatment option, as it relieves pain, corrects deformity and allows you to easily perform your daily activities.
SBJH is at the forefront of the latest advancement in TKRs with the PERFIT-R knee system. The PERFIT-R knee system is a 3D surgical plan using a CT scan mage of the entire leg.
Prior to PERFIT-R, the conventional TKR was performed using cutting guides, alignment rods and trial prosthesis during the surgery. The conventional TKR using traditional instruments, is good for aligning the knee to a set standard and to ensure longevity of the implants.
Using these images, an implant is customized and 3D printed to recreate the natural alignment specific to each patient. Using this 3D printed implant ensures that after recovery, the patient’s knee will feel and work exactly like it used to when the joint was healthy and strong.
Pre-arthritic alignment can only be achieved by precise pre-operative computer aided planning and is essential for successful outcomes. It is with this in mind that we have introduced the PERFIT-R (Perfect fit) knee system in our hospital.
